The Juror
Kelly King holds a BFA (Art Education) and an MFA (Ceramics) from the University of
Georgia. In her own studio practice, she makes both sculptural ceramics and functional
pottery. Her hand-built ceramics fuse painting, art history, and narrative with a sculptural
sensibility. Thematically, her work deals with the human impulse to arrange and
organize the natural landscape and domestic spaces.
King has taught in the college and community settings for over 20 years and has led
numerous workshops, including the Potter’s Council Series “Focus on Function” in
Cincinnati, Ohio. Her sculpture and functional pottery have been featured in several art
publications, including a feature article and cover photo in Ceramics Monthly. Originally
from Georgia, she joined the faculty of The Fine Arts Center in Greenville SC in 2013.
She holds a studio in her Greenville home that she shares with her husband and two
children.

Since 1911, Spartanburg Methodist College has led the way in innovation in higher education. Early in our history, we launched the first cooperative education program in the country, and we are South Carolina’s first liberal arts college to make career development the centerpiece of our four-year degree programs. We care deeply about our students and their dreams, and we are dedicated to creating a practical liberal arts degree to help them reach their goals. Like most small private colleges, we offer small class sizes, personalized support, and quality academics to help our students excel in the classroom. And of course, there are many opportunities for extra-curricular activities that engage students’ diverse talents and interests.
